| Temporary OSOW restrictions in MN/ND |

We received the following notice by e-mail from the Minnesota DOT this morning. Permit Service Staff, Please do not submit Oversize/Overweight (OSOW) Permit applications crossing the Minnesota - North Dakota border this week. This will reduce the number of calls back to you, which usually are "move denied at this time". ND OSOW Permits has told us that they are discouraging OSOW travel everywhere in eastern ND from the South Dakota border to the Canadian border. In addition, except for flood emergency moves, no OSOW travel is allowed in Cass County North Dakota, which includes the Fargo, ND region. In both MN and ND, even where a border crossing is open, many highways are flooded just beyond the border, which makes cross region travel extremely difficult. There are a few MN - ND border crossings that are open for legal size/weight traffic, but both States want to avoid moving OSOW Permits through the border area. The only major highway that is still open is US2, but water has closed some ramps and shoulders of that highway in East Grand Forks, MN. Exceptions will be made for OSOW Permit loads that are needed for flood control. If the move is for flood control emergency, please indicate that on your application. Generally, flood control is handled utilizing local contractors by a government agency. Updated MN travel information is available under the Critical Incident, Road Condition, and Commercial Vehicle tabs at the following web site: www.511mn.org. I will send out another email later this week with an update. Thank you for your cooperation. As always, we try to keep our customers and the trucking community in general as updated as possible with regard to any restrictions that might affect your ability to obtain an oversize / overweight truck permit. |
